1. Introduction

Welcome to Cali! By downloading, accessing, or using the Cali app, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the app.

Cali is a calorie and nutrition tracking application that uses artificial intelligence to help you monitor your daily food intake, track macronutrients, visualize your dietary progress, and receive personalized nutrition guidance through an AI-powered chat assistant.

2. App Services

2.1 Features

Cali provides the following core services:

  • AI-powered food scanning and calorie estimation from photos.
  • Natural language food logging — type what you ate and Cali understands.
  • Daily calorie and macronutrient tracking with visual dashboards.
  • Weight tracking and progress visualization over time.
  • Personalized nutrition goals and streak tracking.
  • Quick-add library for saving and reusing favorite meals.
  • Cali AI Chat Assistant — an interactive conversational AI that provides personalized nutrition advice, answers diet-related questions, and helps you make better food choices.
  • Voice Input for Chat — speak to Cali AI using your device's microphone for hands-free interaction with the chat assistant.

2.2 AI Accuracy

Cali uses advanced AI to analyze food photos and descriptions. While we strive for accuracy, nutritional estimates are approximations and should not be considered medical or dietetic advice. Actual nutritional values may vary based on portion sizes, preparation methods, and ingredient variations.

2.3 Cali AI Chat Assistant

The Cali AI Chat Assistant uses artificial intelligence to provide conversational nutrition guidance. By using this feature, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Responses generated by Cali AI are informational only and do not constitute medical, nutritional, or dietetic advice from a licensed professional.
  • Cali AI may occasionally produce inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information. You should independently verify any critical health or nutrition information.
  • The chat assistant is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare provider, registered dietitian, or nutritionist.
  • You should not rely solely on Cali AI for managing medical conditions, food allergies, intolerances, or specialized dietary needs.
  • Chat conversations may be processed and stored to provide context within your session and to improve the quality of the service.

2.4 Voice Input

Cali offers voice input (speech-to-text) functionality for interacting with the Cali AI Chat Assistant. By enabling and using voice input, you agree that:

  • Your device's microphone will be activated only when you explicitly initiate voice input within the app.
  • Voice audio is converted to text using on-device or third-party speech recognition services and is then processed as a text message by Cali AI.
  • Cali does not store raw audio recordings of your voice. Only the resulting text transcription is used and processed.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that voice input is used in appropriate settings and that you have the right to record in your environment.
  • Voice recognition accuracy may vary depending on language, accent, background noise, and device capabilities.

2.5 Subscription Services

Certain features of Cali may require a paid subscription. Subscription terms, pricing, and billing cycles are presented at the time of purchase. You can manage or cancel your subscription through your device's app store settings.

2.6 Availability

We aim to provide uninterrupted access to Cali, but we do not guarantee that the app will always be available or error-free. We may temporarily suspend access for maintenance, updates, or unforeseen technical issues. This includes the Cali AI Chat Assistant and voice input features, which depend on external AI and speech recognition services.

3. User Rights and Obligations

3.1 Account Responsibility

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.

3.2 Acceptable Use

You agree to use Cali only for its intended purpose — personal nutrition and calorie tracking. You may not:

  • Use the app for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the app.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the app's infrastructure or servers.
  • Upload malicious content, spam, or harmful data.
  • Share your account credentials with third parties.
  • Attempt to manipulate, exploit, or misuse the Cali AI Chat Assistant to generate harmful, misleading, or inappropriate content.
  • Use voice input to record or transmit content that violates the rights of others.

3.3 Your Content

You retain ownership of the content you create within Cali (food logs, photos, chat messages, voice transcriptions, and personal data). By using the app, you grant Cali a limited license to process this content solely for the purpose of providing and improving our services, including generating AI-powered responses and nutritional insights.

4. Intellectual Property

The Cali app, including its design, branding, code, AI models, and content, is the intellectual property of Cali and is protected by applicable copyright and trademark laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on Cali without our prior written consent.

5. Changes to Service

We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue any aspect of the Cali app at any time. We will provide reasonable notice for significant changes that affect your use of the service. Continued use of Cali after such changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Cali is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.
  • Cali is not a medical device and does not provide medical, nutritional, or health advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for dietary guidance.
  • Responses from the Cali AI Chat Assistant are generated by artificial intelligence and may contain errors. We are not liable for any actions taken based on AI-generated advice.
  • We are not responsible for inaccuracies in voice-to-text transcription or any consequences arising from misinterpreted voice input.
  • Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

7. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms of Service or engage in conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be harmful to Cali or other users. Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the app ceases immediately.
  • We may delete your account data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
  • Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., limitation of liability, intellectual property) will continue to apply.

8. Governing Law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable local laws. Any disputes arising from these terms will be resolved through good-faith negotiation or, if necessary, through the appropriate legal channels.
